CROS Is Launching the Pilot Population Census 2018 Project

The CROS team is starting work on a new large-scale project — the Pilot Population Census 2018. It is an important preparatory stage for the National Population Census 2020, one the country’s most significant statistical surveys of the decade.

A round table “Digital transformations in statistics: what will be tested during the Pilot Population Census 2018?” became one of the first public events of the project. Development prospects and new technologies for the Russian statistical service have been discussed by representatives of the Economic Development Ministry, the Federal Statistics Service, the Communications Ministry and experts.

Starting this autumn, any Russian citizen with an account at Gosuslugi.ru would be able to personally take part in the Census by filling in an electronic census list. Representatives of the Federal Statistics Service say that this is an unprecedented experiment for Russia and experts expect the Pilot Population Census 2018 to give start to a new age in the history of the country’s statistics.
